December 1 Exit Slip

I am very surprised with how many students passed in 1982 and flabbergasted with how many in 1987. That shows with the right amount of determination and someone to push it, you can change from something poor to something great to something outstanding to something downright unbelievable. Hopefully some day something like that will happen here in our school.

  1. Your use of the word "flabbergasted" wins the blog for today. :-)

More seriously, though, what do you see as the factors that are preventing our school from having a moment like Garfield in 1987? Also seriously, though I'm asking in a slightly ironic way: what can teachers do to promote a "Garfield moment" without pushing ourselves to heart attacks? (I'm willing to work hard, but I also think I should be able to have health and a happy family life at the same time.)

  2. I don't think we have any factors keeping us from having a "Garfield moment" other than being unlucky in creating the perfect storm of students and the right teacher. In the film it seemed that Mr.Escalante already had a read on his kid's personality while at the same time there was a type of young energy in the classroom which we don't really have here. Also I think the reason he had a heart attack was because he was old and not exactly in the best shape so the stress kinda was the icing on the cake. So just be healthy and I think you'd be fine.
