In the first couple of chapters in the book I learned that Alex was a very open person and was a hard working determined man. He was generous even if he did not have enough for himself. For example in page 17 Alex had offered McCandles a beer even with very little cash in his pocket. Money did not seem to matter to him and I think that's what kept him alive.
I'm intrigued by your comment that McCandless's lack of reliance on money was what kept him alive. I wonder if you could elaborate on that?
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify: Alex and McCandless are the same person. His legal name was Chris McCandless, but he gave himself the name "Alexander Supertramp."
